Millmerran CFPP(Australia)

DAELIM Energy, together with KDB Infrastructure Asset Management Co., LTD, purchased a 35% stake in Australia’s Millmerran Power Station in 2013, becoming the second-largest shareholder of the plant and making Millmerran its first overseas power generation asset.

Millmerran Power Station, comprising two 425.5MW units worth an installed capacity of 851MW, is a supercritical coal-fired electricity generation plant located in Queensland, Australia, which began commercial operation in 2003. As of 2015, Millmerran ranks third on Queensland’s merit order and is responsible for base load generation. Thanks to the stable management by Intergen, a leading global power generation management company, the Millmerran plant has been a stable generator of electricity over the last decade while boasting a high capacity factor.

Millmerran Power Station supplies enough electricity to power approximately 1.1 million homes by selling all its electricity to the National Electricity Market. A type of mine mouth power plant (MMPP), Millmerran Power Station has been taking advantage of the affordable, steady flow of fuel supply from the nearby Commodore Mine via conveyor belt. In addition, with the operation of the nearby LNG terminal and the rise in demand for electricity, the future of Millmerran Power Station looks promising.

DAELIM Energy is working to gain a solid foothold in coal-fired electricity generation business through its investments in Australia’s Millmerran Power Plant while continuing to seeking further business opportunities in the field.

※ A supercritical steam generator is a type of boiler that operates at supercritical pressure, frequently used in the production of electric power. In contrast to a subcritical boiler, a supercritical steam generator operates at pressures above the critical pressure - 3,200 psi or 22 MPa -resulting in slightly less fuel use and therefore less greenhouse gas production.
